Around Dharamsala

Bhagsunag Temple, Springs, and Waterfall
 | | | | Around Dharamsala, pilgrims come to bathe in the pure spring water of Bhagsu Nag Temple, before praying to Lord Shiva. | Visitors are welcome to step inside the intricately designed temple. | This ancient Hindu temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and to Bhagsu Nag, the snake goddess. |
Bhagsu Nag
Just down the Bhagsu Road from Mcleodganj is the village of Bhagsu Nag with it’s ancient temple, cool clear fresh water springs, and nearby Bhagsu Waterfall. From the temple, its just a short walk along the path to the waterfall. Some enjoy the opportunity of a cool brisk dip in the waters around the falls. The area around Bhagsunath is also famous for its slate quarries.

Mcleodganj, Upper Dharamsala McLeod Ganj, current home and residence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and home to thousands of Tibetan monks, nuns, students, children, and families, offers a unique opportunity to experience the rich and vibrant Tibetan culture that has been preserved here. There are opportunities to see and receive teachings from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and His Eminance the Karmapa. Visitors can study Tibetan Buddhism, medicine, meditation, astrology, cooking, and more, or consult with and receive treatment from Tibetan doctors.
Dharamkot The village of Dharamkot is about a 20-25 minute walk up the somewhat steep TIPA Road from the bus stand in Mcleod Ganj. By taxi or rickshaw, it will take between 5 and 10 minutes. You can also reach Dharamkot by a pleasant shady footpath from Bhagsu, along the way meeting friendly Tibetans and local villagers. Dharamkot has long been a favorite picnic spot with its sweeping view of the Kangra Valley, the Dhauladhar Mountains, and the thick deodar and pine forests. At the end of TIPA Road in the dense forests of Dharamkot, above Mcleod Ganj, is the Tushita Meditation Center, a center for the study and practice of Tibetan Mahayana Buddhism. If you enjoy a somewhat longer (and rocky) walk, you can continue on from Dharamkot to the village of Naddi, known for its spectacular views of the Dhauladhar Mountains.
The Peaceful Forests of Dharamkot
Naddi Village The beautiful village of Naddi is located in the hills above Mcleod Ganj, and can be reached by road from Mcleodganj and lower Dharamsala, or on foot from Dharamkot. In addition to the sweeping view of the beautiful Dhauladhar Mountains, Naddi is just a short walk to Dal Lake and the Tibetan Children's Village. An International school is nearby, and the ancient temple of Ganni Mata will soon be linked to Naddi via scenic ropeway. You can walk to Ganni Mata Temple and the beautiful nearby waterfall in about an hour, and avoid the crowds of Bhagsunag.
