Even with a worldwide itinerary of public talks and teachings, the schedule of His Holiness the Dalai Lama always includes several teachings each year in Dharamsala.

If you would like to attend the teachings in Dharamsala, register at the Tibetan Branch Security Office in McLeod Ganj (near Hotel Tibet), several days before the teachings begin. To register, bring 2 passport size photos along with your passport. The teachings are free and open to the public.

Dalai Lama Teaching Schedule for Dharamsala

March 11, 2009: His Holiness will give a teaching from the Jataka Tales at the Main Tibetan Temple.

Spring Teachings Scheduled March 12 to 21 have been canceled.
The annual monlan, or spring teachings, given at the Main Tibetan Temple have been cancelled for this year. The spring teachings traditionally begin on the 16th day of the 1st Tibetan month which falls in February or March.


Dalai Lama Teaching in Sarnath, U.P., India

The seven-day teachings in Sarnath have been moved back by one day. His Holiness will now teach from January 8th to 14th, not 7th to 13th as previously planned.

January 8 - 14, 2009: His Holiness will give seven-day teachings on Arya Asanga's Compendium of Higher Knowledge (ngonpa kuntue) & Shantideva's A Guide To the Bodhisattva's Way of Life (chodjug). The teachings are being held near the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies in Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh.

Dalai Lama Teaching in Kaza, Himachal Pradesh, India

July 10 - 12, 2009: His Holiness will give three-day teachings at the request of the Sakya Monastery in Kaza. On July 10 His Holiness will give a Buddhist teaching (topic yet to be decided). On July 11 and 12 His Holiness will confer the Avalakotieshvera Initiation (chenresig wangchen).

Dalai Lama Visits to Bodh Gaya and South India

Winter: His Holiness often visits Bodh Gaya and some Tibetan settlements in south India where he regularly gives teachings. Empowerments and Initiations are often given during his teachings throughout the year, however, His Holiness stresses the importance of attending teachings in order to better understand the philosophy of Buddhism.
