The cooling monsoon rains continue into August and September, the mountains are enveloped in mist and clouds, and the lush Kangra Valley is awash in a sea of green. During this monsoon season, while mist and clouds cover the mountains, views of the peaks are rare, but when the clouds lift, the views are clear and spectacular. 
August in Dharamsala is similar to July, both average about 22 rainy days, however, the rains peak in July and begin tapering off through August and into September.

Dharamsala weather in August is not a good time for trekking, but it is an excellent time for taking in the green hills and flowing streams, and enjoying a quiet retreat If you are traveling in India during the monsoon season and plan to visit Dharamsala, be sure to check for temporary road and bridge closures due to mudslides. It may be difficult catching a flight between (DEL) Indira Ghandi Intl Airport, Delhi, India and (DHM) Dharamsala-Gaggal-Kangra Airport, but if you enjoy the calm of low season in Dharamsala, it’s a perfect time for quiet retreat and meditation. Rain gear is essential, but if you are traveling light, or have lost your umbrella somewhere along the way, large colorful umbrellas, ponchos, and weatherproof footwear are easily purchased in Dharamsala and Mcleodganj.
