Church of St John in the Wilderness Not far from Mcleod Ganj and Naddi, in the deodar and pine forest near Forsyth Ganj, is St John's Church in the Wilderness. It is a short walk of about 10-15 minutes from either Mcleodganj or Naddi, on the road to lower Dharamshala.
Stained Glass Windows This small stone church, with it’s beautiful stained glass windows, dates from 1852 and is one of the few buildings remaining from the time of the British rule in India. This beautiful Belgium stained glass was donated to the church by Lady Elgin.
Memorial to Lord ElginThere is a memorial here to Lord Elgin, 2nd Viceroy of India during the time of British rule.
Lord Elgin was so captivated by the forests and mountains of Dharamshala, that he asked to be buried here, saying it reminded him of Scotland. David Mcleod Also buried here is David Mcleod, a Lieutenant Governor of Punjab for whom Mcleod Ganj was named. Ganj is a Hindi word meaning "market" or "neighborhood."
